An apparatus for measuring the quantity of heat released by a chemical reaction; it consists of a strong walled metal container (bomb) immersed in about 2.5 liters of water in an insulated container; a sample is sealed in the bomb, the bomb immersed, the reaction started by remote control, and the heat released measured by observing the rise in temperature of the water bath.
