Bhumihar Brahmins (à¤à¥‚मीहर बà¥à¤°à¤¾à¤¹à¥à¤®à¤£), also known as Bhumihars (à¤à¥‚मीहार) are an influential Brahmin subcaste who have traditionally resided in fertile regions of Indo-Gangetic plains of North India, in the states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. They were referred to as Baabhans (बाà¤à¤¨) too, an apabhramsha word for Brahmin.
