The BEER Engine is a role-playing game system created by 9th Level Games. This is the basic engine is used to determine if a character succeeds at an action they have attempted in the game. In BEER Engine games, all characters have statistics that represent their physical and mental aptitudes. (i.e. strength, reflexes, or smarts) These statistics are determined by rolling a number of dice when the character is created with higher results representing a greater proficiency in a particular area.
A beer engine is a device for pumping beer, originally manually operated and typically used to dispense beer from a cask or container in a pub's basement or cellar. Strictly the term refers to the pump itself, which may be either manually or electrically powered; when manually powered, the term handpump is often used to refer to both the pump and the associated handle.
