APACS, the UK payments association, is a trade association for institutions delivering payments services to end customers. It provides the forum to address co-operative aspects of payments and their development. It is also the main industry voice on issues such as plastic cards, card fraud, cheques, electronic payments and cash.
The Association for Payment Clearing Services – who are responsible for matters relating to money transmission and payment clearing activities generally in the United Kingdom. Their remit includes: BACS Limited, which operates the bulk electronic clearing. The CHAPS and Town Clearing Company Limited, which operates the high value same-day clearings. The Cheque and Credit Clearing Company Limited, which operates the bulk paper clearings in London. APACS also oversees the London currency clearings and cheque card and eurocheque schemes.

APACS (the UK payments association) is the UK trade association for payment systems provided by financial institutions. It promotes standards and interoperability for systems such as BACS, CHAPS and SWIFT, which are themselves separate companies. Additionally, APACS issues all bank branch 'Sort Codes' used as transactional identifiers - these codes are published annually in a directory format.
