Aleppo was a city in ancient times. The city is now referred to as Haleb. The city once served as a gateway between Europe and the Easters Mediterranean to Asia. In the 1500's the city florished as a major trading center of the Ottoman Empire. Aleppo ties in with The Walking Drum because a reference to the city is made when Kerbouchard acknowledges many men who traveled from the city to a tavern.(CeGm)
