Definitions for "Ahas"
Alphahydroxy acids are a family of natural acids derived from fruits, milk, and other plants which, in small quantities, act as hydrators. In higher concentrations, they are exfoliants and work to reduce the effects of aging and sun damage by lessening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The AHAs utilized in some Cell Tech products are not in any way synthesized and are therefore not comparable to the highly concentrated, synthesized AHAs used in acid peels.
Chemical peelers that work by clearing off the top layers of dead skin cells by a process called exfoliation. Unlike retinoic acid, AHAs do not affect the skin at the cellular level.
Acids derived from food sources that are effective exfoliants of the skin. The most common AHAs are glycolic acid and lactic acid.
