The act of adumbrating, or shadowing forth.

Hall, it refers to the foreshadowing of a verbal message by such things as gestures employed by speakers, the dress of speakers, the environment in which the message is delivered, etc.; that is, anything which may "set the stage" for a verbal message and which may influence the meaning attached to the message by the listener.
