the French-speaking part of the Canadian Maritime Provinces.
An area which originally included the colonies of New France in south-eastern Quebec, eastern Maine, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. It was taken over by the British in 1713.
A western province of New France ceded to Great Britain in 1713 through the Treaty of Utrecht. Today, it includes New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
