Definitions for "AAV"
"adeno-associated virus" is a small single strand DNA virus. It belongs to the family of the Parvoviridae and in the genus Dependovirus. The viral particle is composed of one positive or negative polarity strand of DNA in a capsid. The mean size of an AAV particle is 18 to 22 nm. AAVs are the only non-autonomous parvoviruses. When we speak of "rAAV", this means the recombinant AAV virus, i.e. modified to become a vector (and thus is no longer infectious).
adeno-associated virus or AAV – AAV is a defective parovirus with a single-stranded DNA genome and a naked protein coat. AAV is in the dependovirus division of the parvovirus family. One of the main distinguishing features of AAV is that it requires a helper virus (for example, herpes or adeno virus families) for productive growth, in the absence of a helper virus no progeny virus is produced but the AAV integrates into the host chromosome at a very low frequency.
Adeno associated virus. A small, stable virus that is not known to cause disease in humans. The naturally occurring form of the virus has only two genes, which are removed in the construction of AAV vectors for gene delivery. Neither AAV nor AAV vectors have been known to induce an immune response.

Accountholder Authentication Value. A term used by MasterCard in its 3-D Secure(tm) authentication process (MasterCard Secure Code). The AAV proves that authentication took place. It is a unique 32-byte value that is generated by the issuer's SPA server for each on-line transaction. It is passed to the merchant via the Universal Cardholder Authentication Field (UCAF) and through the CAVV field.
